Vehicle Description The Triumph TR4A is a sports car built by the Triumph Motor Company at its Coventry factory in the United Kingdom from 1965 to 1967. It is an evolution of the Giovanni Michelotti styled TR4. Building off of the TR3's success, Triumph unveiled the TR4 in 1961. Furthering the evolution of the earlier model, the TR4 combined a low cost of entry with a capable open-top sports car to become one of Triumph's best-loved cars. In all, just over 40,000 TR4s left the Coventry factory. And like most British roadsters of the era, the lion's share landed in the U.S. In response to requests from United States distributors Triumph developed a version of the TR4A fitted with a TR4-style rear live axle and made IRS an extra-cost option for the US market. Their relative affordability, good handling, and brisk performance made them a popular choice on the track, and they continue to be an entertaining drive today.
This TR4A was near the end of the line for TR4A models. This "solid axle" TR4A as they are know, retains the sharper handling characteristics of the earlier cars and require less maintenance than IRS versions. It has had an excellent restoration with show quality paint and panel fit. The interior sports the correct leather seats with contrast stitching and period correct wood dash. It also has brand new factory 60 spoke wire wheels with period correct whitewalls. A new stainless steel exhaust system has just been installed. This is the best TR4A we have seen in many years! |
