Willys-Overland Motor Company began their Willy coupe in 1937 with mostly traditional styling and as the company continued along it gradually evolved to a very similar look to its competition, the Ford DeLuxe. This changed names to Americars as most companies began to aim their marketing plans towards a more patriotic angle. Their biggest downfall was their poor 4-cylinder engines which ended up needing replacing frequently and became a prime target for those into the hot rods. Many turned these into their own projects and made them into racing machines, rat rods and everything in between and to this day the Willys holds a special spot in the hot rod world because of this.
This Willys offered here was originally raced in the Super Chevy class in the early 90’s. The vehicle has been build in a few different configurations over years and is currently powered by a 540ci V8 said to be making 750hp. Power is routed trough a built TH400 3-Speed transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear end. The IDA Custom Automotive fiberglass body rides on an Art Morrison frame and man does it look good underneath. The craftsmanship on every piece of this Willys is something to admire.
Hit the door popper and step inside to find the custom carmel brown interior. Power seats, power windows, leather wrapped roll cage, and the leather wrapped center console all add some classy touches to this beast.
Other build info includes: A Dart “Big M 540 Iron Block” 9.800/4.500, 4-Bolt main, Ported aluminum heads, J.E Pistons 12.50:1, Eagle crank and connecting rods, Custom ground Billit Cams, full body Crowler roller lifters, a full MSD ignition system, four wheel Willwood disc brakes, independent coliover suspension, power rack and pinion stearing, and Bullit Specialitys wheels.
