Vehicle Description

1939 Ford 85 Deluxe Coupe  A convenient, modern car that carries three comfortably.  Especially desirable for business and professional use.  Light over rear window with switch on door pillar.  Clear Vision Ventilation.  Windshield opens.  Extra large parcel shelf behind driver's seat.  Two luggage compartments.  Spare tire mounted vertically in rear luggage space.  From the 1939 Ford dealer's brochure.  For consignment, a 1939 Ford 85 Deluxe coupe with 682 non verifiable miles, a long way from Ford's intent in 1939, and the only similarities it shares with its original marketing material is the outer shape of the car and the fact that this car is desirable for business, but not the traveling salesman type of business originally proposed.  No, this car is ALL business, of the racing and street rod variety.  Exterior Medium Blue Metallic shines bright on this all steel bodied Deluxe and demonstrates what modern two stage paint can do to enhance the lines of a car from a time when paint was satin finished at best.  The nose aims skyward on the front suspension as if lifting off under full acceleration and the stance gives the car a head start in weight shifting that's advantageous for traction.  A billet style grille is practically eye level ahead of a porthole pocked hood with pinstripe flames and 383 Stroker painted on each side.  There's also a set of Mooneyes decals and Thrush Performance's cigar smoking woodpecker depicted on the sides and some other wordage.  The huge rounded trunk of the car latches above the rear valance that houses two round tail lights and a bumper bar around the license plate bracket.  15-inch American Racing wheels hold staggered size tires, as any drag car would have and ladder bars and exhaust components peek out from the raised car.  Some uneven paint on one lower edge is the only imperfection we could find on the exterior.  Interior Purpose built for racing and the heat that comes along with it, aluminum lines the interior starting with embossed door panels with a unique design and a panel that emulates a stitched insert.  Bucket seats on a rail frame are constructed of clean black vinyl and wear normal seatbelts.  More embossed panels surround the rear section behind the seats while the welded one piece steering wheel is also bare metal.  A series of gauges is ahead of the driver, set in metallic plates and a large tachometer is mounted on the body colored dashboard, all very clean.  The custom built center console is reserved for a fire extinguisher with the floor mounted shifter and accompanying buttons.  Creature comfort creeps in with a thin carpet covering the floor while a stylized metal bracket floats above us and over the black roll bar mounted inside.  Reflective heat panels stand in for what probably would have been a mohair headliner back in the day.  USA stamped aluminum panels adorn the trunk along with carpet and a wooden tool box.   Drivetrain Here's the money shot!  Under the hood, an ATK crate 383ci stroker V8 with a 528i/536e lift hydraulic roller cam, a Scat nodular iron crank, Scat I-Beam rods, and 9.7-1 compression hypereutectic pistons.  It also has aluminum heads with 64cc chambers and 2.02/1.60 valves, putting out a consignor state 450 horsepower.  A single 4-barrel sits atop an Edelbrock intake manifold and a Tremec 3550 5-speed manual transmission with a Ram clutch sends power to the Ford 9 rear and 3.89 gears with TracLoc.  Wilwood disc brakes are found front and rear .   Undercarriage All business and all clean underneath, starting with the body panels painted in black textured paint, serving as the background for all of the go fast components.  Polished rear coilovers and ladder bars are out back and a Speedway Straight axle lives up front along with leaf springs.  The dual exhaust comes from headers, of course, and comes to a blocked cut out, and finds flow through stainless steel mufflers that precede a quic
